Rookie safety Adrian Amos leapfrogs Brock Vereen on latest depth chart

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears latest preseason depth chart revealed that rookie Adrian Amos leapfrogged Brock Vereen at safety.

This is hardly a surprise.

Amos began taking first-team reps at safety alongside veteran Antrel Rolle on Saturday.

Still, the official change is further confirmation that Amos impressed the coaching staff in the Bears' 27-10 preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins.

The Bears credited Amos -- the club's 2015 fifth-round pick out of Penn State -- with two tackles in 27 defensive snaps.

Amos also played six snaps on special teams.

A converted collegiate cornerback, Amos is a prototypical free safety.

As for Vereen, the 5-foot-11 safety made two tackles in 17 defensive plays against the Dolphins, but allowed a short touchdown pass to Miami's Jarvis Landry on the game's opening drive.

Joining Vereen on the second team defense is Ryan Mundy, who set career-highs in tackles and interceptions for the Bears in 2014.

Keep in mind that preseason depth charts can be fluid. Amos is not guaranteed a starting spot in Week 1, but barring something unforeseen, Amos and Rolle will start at safety vs. Indianapolis on Saturday.
