Here’s a rundown of significant Cleveland Browns players who were missing for the start of on-field work on Tuesday, with the emphasis that all work before the minicamp is voluntary:
FS Tashaun Gipson continues to pursue a long-term contract. He is unsigned. More on this later on Wednesday.
DL Danny Shelton (first-round draft pick) is finishing his academic work at the University of Washington.
CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (seventh-round pick) will continue to rehab his damaged knee and will remain in the team's facility during most of the on-field work.
OL Nick McDonald did not practice. He had a wrap on his left leg. [UPDATE: McDonald was waived with an injury designation Wednesday afternoon.]
WR Vince Mayle (fourth-round pick) continues to recover from surgery to repair a broken thumb. “He likely won’t take any reps in the spring,” coach Mike Pettine said.
TE Randall Telfer (sixth-round pick) will be out until the second half of the season after foot surgery.
OL Karim Barton will participate only in walkthroughs but will be ready for training camp, Pettine said. His injury is undisclosed.
DE Armonty Bryant is in the individual work phase as he recovers from ACL surgery.
LB Barkevious Mingo is doing individual work and taking part in some drills as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
DE Phil Taylor was on the field with a knee brace (surgery) and took part in some drills. “He’s on pace to be good to go for camp,” Pettine said
