Needing offensive line depth, Lions expected to sign Tim Lelito

The Detroit Lions are apparently adding a veteran on their offensive line.

Offensive guard Tim Lelito, a Michigan native, is expected to sign with the Lions this week after a message was posted on his foundation’s Facebook page that he would be playing for his hometown team the rest of the season.

Lelito was undrafted in 2013 out of Grand Valley State. He spent four seasons with the New Orleans Saints through last season. He signed with Tennessee in the offseason, but was released before the first game of the season.

He has played in 63 games in his career, starting 27 for the Saints. He had his most starts in 2015, with 13 of them.

The Lions need help on the interior of the offensive line after having center Travis Swanson (ankle) and reserve Joe Dahl (lower leg) inactive Sunday against Atlanta. The injuries forced the Lions to move Graham Glasgow from left guard to center and bumped up Zac Kerin to starter at left guard with Dahl also inactive. The Lions were down to three active interior linemen -- starters Glasgow (center) and T.J. Lang (right guard) and Kerin, who signed with Detroit earlier this month.

This would give the Lions more position and roster flexibility. Since the signing was not made official yet, there has been no corresponding move made by the Lions.
