Packers' first-round pick Damarious Randall gets first chance

The Green Bay Packers play their second preseason game at 1 p.m. ET Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. Here are a couple things to watch for during the game:

Why watch: Has there ever been less buzz about a first-round draft pick? Don't be surprised if Damarious Randall changes that. The cornerback from Arizona State showed off his extraordinary ball skills in practice this week. In Thursday's practice alone, he nearly had two interceptions. He picked off one and then almost made what would have been the most impressive interception of camp on a diving attempt in the end zone. Randall missed the preseason opener Aug. 13 against the New England Patriots because of a groin injury and standout performances by fellow rookie cornerbacks Quinten Rollins (two pass breakups) and LaDarius Gunter (one interception) made it easy to forget about Randall. But there's a reason he was the 30th pick in the draft, and he finally gets to show why.

Did you know: If linebacker Clay Matthews doesn't play, he not only will miss his second straight preseason game this summer but he will have missed as many preseason games in his career as he has played in. Matthews didn't play against the Patriots because of a sore knee. This week, coach Mike McCarthy said Matthews also is dealing with an elbow issue. If he doesn't play against the Steelers, it will be the 13th time in 26 career preseason games that he did not play. To be sure, not all of those were injury issues. In some of them, he was a healthy scratch while several other starters also did not play.
