GREEN BAY, Wis. -- How’s this for catching the Green Bay Packers' eye: a 106-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 28-yard catch-and-run for a score on a screen pass.
That’s what the Packers’ latest roster addition, running back Jhurell Pressley, did in his preseason finale with the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday. The Packers on Saturday claimed and were awarded the undrafted free agent from New Mexico after he was waived in Saturday’s final cuts.
It’s not immediately known what the Packers did to make room for Pressley on the roster, but they have been searching for a No. 3 running back all preseason. They appeared settled on John Crockett until he sustained a shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve.
The Packers kept undrafted rookie Brandon Burks on their initial 53-man roster as the No. 3 back behind Eddie Lacy and James Starks.
The 5-foot-10, 206 pound Pressley averaged just 2.9 yards on 28 rushing attempts in the preseason, but had five catches for 57 yards. His kickoff return for a touchdown was his lone attempt of the preseason.
The Packers also have used a variety of kick returners this preseason, including receivers Ty Montgomery, Jared Abbrederis and Trevor Davis plus defensive back Micah Hyde.
The Packers will have to make two roster moves -- one to make room for Pressley and another after they sign long-snapper Brett Goode.
The only other waiver-wire transactions involving the Packers was linebacker Sam Barrington, who was claimed by the Chiefs after being released by Green Bay on Saturday in a somewhat surprising move.
