Bubble players now wait for the phone to ring

The nerves might have set in overnight. Some insist there are no nerves.

All they can do is wait.

"I would be worried if I didn’t put my best foot forward," cornerback Charles James said. "For me there is nothing to worry about. Either they are going to cut me or I’ll be here. It is as simple as that. ... The only thing I can do is sit there and wait until my phone rings or it doesn't."

James started the game, along with fellow corners Kevin Johnson and Darryl Morris. James, Morris and Jumal Rolle got the most playing time in the game as they battled for one or two remaining spots on the Texans' roster behind corners Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, A.J. Bouye and Kevin Johnson.

Cornerback, inside linebacker, outside linebacker and receiver were four positions which were sorted out through last night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

One receiver who sits on the roster bubble is Keshawn Martin, who is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract. Martin has some starting experience, but found himself pushed down the depth chart with the Texans' roster moves this offseason. He made a leaping grab for a 16-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game.

"It was good operation by the offense," Martin said. "I ran a corner route. I saw the ball soon as I turned around. The defender, he was all over me, he really didn’t have a chance because it happened so quick. It was a great ball.

"... It’s tough. At the end of the day, it’s a business. You’ve got to prepare yourself for anything. You can’t be too comfortable in any situation. You’ve just go to be ready for it."

And while Bill O'Brien did say one game could change his mind, he stressed that a player's body of work would be critical for the team's decision. They aren't easy decisions for O'Brien because it means so much to players on the bubble to make the team they've been with all summer.

"It would be such a blessing," outside linebacker Kourtnei Brown said. "I would praise God. I would be so happy. Whatever I have to do to help the team win from that point on, I’m here to do it."
