During the next few weeks we'll take a look at the Houston Texans' pending free agents. Check out the whole series here.
Running back Chris Polk
How he became a Texan: Polk was signed to a one-year deal worth $760,000 last offseason after asking the Eagles to rescind the restricted free agent tender they extended him.
2015 numbers: In 15 games Polk had 99 carries for 334 yards and 16 catches for 109 yards.
Why he might be back: Polk gave the Texans a pop at times. He had runs of longer than 10 yards in seven games, and was the second-most used running back on the roster. He was fairly sure-handed, with only one drop according to ESPN Stats and Information, and could get a chance to compete during training camp this summer as the Texans look for a more permanent solution at the position. Arian Foster, their starter since 2010, is likely gone.
Why he might not be back: Polk's 3.37 yards per carry ranked third among Texans running backs with more than 50 carries, after Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes. The Texans could add a running back in the draft to a group that includes Blue, Grimes, the speedy Akeem Hunt and Kenny Hilliard, a 2015 seventh-round draft pick who spent his rookie year on the practice squad. Polk is the only one of the bunch becoming a free agent.
