INDIANAPOLIS -- The wait is still on for the Indianapolis Colts and defensive tackle Art Jones.
Coach Chuck Pagano said Tuesday that they are still waiting to get more information on Jones' injured left ankle. ESPN NFL Insider Josina Anderson reported that Jones is seeking another opinion from a foot and ankle specialist. The first doctor Jones visited believes the defensive tackle can play this season, according to Anderson.
It's anybody's guess at the moment when that will happen, though.
Even though there hasn't been an official diagnosis on Jones' ankle, it would be surprising if he played in the Colts' Week 1 game at Buffalo. Jones, who injured his ankle against the St. Louis Rams last weekend, declined comment to the media in the locker room Tuesday. He had a very noticeable limp as he made his way to the shower. Jones left the locker room wearing a walking boot and with crutches.
A possibility for the Colts is that they could place Jones on the short-term injured reserve. If Jones is played on the short-term injured reserve, he can begin practicing after six weeks, but he can't play in game until after being on the list for eight weeks.
Montori Hughes will get the first crack at starting in Jones' absence, with Zach Kerr and Henry Anderson also getting snaps at that position.
