ANDERSON, Ind. -- Indianapolis Colts safety Clayton Geathers was the surprise player who reported to training camp injured Tuesday.
Coach Chuck Pagano said Geathers injured his foot while working out on his own during the offseason.
"Doing what he's supposed to do in the offseason, working at his craft," Pagano said. "Unfortunately, he has a foot injury. He's doing well. He's three weeks into that. He'll be week to week."
Geathers, who is wearing a walking boot, is projected to start at safety with veteran Mike Adams this season.
Geathers' injury means second-round pick T.J. Green will get more reps along with Winston Guy, Stefan McClure, Andrew Williamson and Dezmen Southward. Guy, who only has five starts in 35 career games, is the only player in that group who was on the roster last season, and he has predominately been a special teams player.
Green switched to safety from receiver after his freshman season at Clemson. He had 130 tackles, including 102 solo, last season.
"Any pick that's taken that high in the draft, we would have high expectations for going in. T.J. had a good spring," Colts defensive coordinator Ted Monachino said. "He made a quantum leap from a learning standpoint. We would expect that to continue over the next couple of weeks and through the preseason. We expect him to play well enough for us to win with him."
