Source: Dolphins add David Fales as another option to the backup QB mix

The Miami Dolphins agreed to terms Wednesday with backup quarterback David Fales, a source tells ESPN.

Fales will compete with Matt Moore and 2016 seventh-round pick Brandon Doughty for Miami’s backup quarterback job behind starter Ryan Tannehill. Fales was a 2014 sixth-round pick of the Chicago Bears. He spent one year working with Miami head coach Adam Gase while Gase was offensive coordinator of the Bears in 2015.

Gase bringing Fales to the Dolphins means the coach believes the 26-year-old quarterback has potential. It also doesn’t hurt that Fales is familiar with Gase’s offense.

Miami’s quarterback room is solid with Tannehill and Moore, but the No. 3 spot is wide open if the team decides to carry three signal-callers next season. Moore also is entering the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2018.
