Still no sign of Brandon LaFell at New England Patriots practice

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Brandon LaFell, who played more snaps than any New England Patriots wide receiver in 2014, remains out of practice and thus puts his availability for the season-opening game Sept. 10 against the Steelers in jeopardy.

LaFell, who was spotted with a boot on his left foot in the offseason, opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list. If he remains on the PUP list at the final roster cutdown Sept. 5, he wouldn't be eligible to play for the first six weeks of the season.

LaFell's status, coupled with a run of injuries at the position, contributed to the team signing veteran Reggie Wayne to a one-year contract last Tuesday.

Earlier Monday, Bill Belichick said the team was balancing multiple things, including preparation for the NFL opener.

A few other notes from practice:

  • Starting center Bryan Stork, who hasn't played in the preseason, remains sidelined with an undisclosed injury. Stork has been spotted in the locker room during the media-access period, and there has been no obvious ailment for observers to pinpoint.

  • Starting right tackle Sebastian Vollmer and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, both of whom were sidelined during Friday's preseason win over the Panthers, were present at practice.

  • Offensive tackle Marcus Cannon, a top swing option, returned. He's been in and out of training camp practices due to injury.

  • The practice was a light one, held in shorts and shells (light shoulder pads).

  • Quarterback Tom Brady; receivers Jonathan Krause and Josh Boyce; tight end Jimmy Mundine; cornerback Darryl Roberts, linebackers Dekoda Watson and Dane Fletcher; fullback James Develin; offensive linemen Chris Barker and Stork; and defensive tackles Chris Jones and Joe Vellano were not spotted at the session.
