Lions find reliable slot receiver in Jeremy Kerley (1:39)

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Former New York Jets wide receiver and punt returner Jeremy Kerley has agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan reported.

Kerley, who was released March 9 in a long-anticipated move, also took a free-agent visit to the Buffalo Bills and former coach Rex Ryan. In Detroit, he will be part of a receiving corps that begins the post-Calvin Johnson era. The projected starters are Golden Tate and the recently signed Marvin Jones, but Kerley can be the No. 3 or No. 4 receiver.

Kerley was a non-factor for the Jets last season, never finding a role in Chan Gailey's offense. He finished with 16 catches for 152 yards, both career lows. The Jets saved $1.3 million in cap space by releasing him, but there is a dead-money charge of $1.8 million.

Right now, the depth chart at receiver looks like this:

Starters

Brandon Marshall

Eric Decker

Backups

Quincy Enunwa

Kenbrell Thompkins

Devin Smith (injured)

Joe Anderson

Chandler Worthy

Titus Davis
