SEATTLE -- A few thoughts on the New York Giants' 38-17 loss to the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field.
What it means: The Giants have lost four games in a row to fall to 3-6 and into a last-place tie with Washington in the NFC East. This one was disappointing, because while no one outside of their building gave the Giants a chance to win it, they had a 17-14 halftime lead on the Super Bowl champs at home. But they couldn't capitalize on the Seahawks' turnovers, and they couldn't stop the Seahawks' offense in the second half.
Stock watch: Giants' run defense, WAY THE HECK DOWN. The Seahawks ran the ball 45 times for a team-record 350 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Marshawn Lynch and quarterback Russell Wilson each ran for more than 100 yards, with Lynch collecting four of the touchdowns and Wilson the other. The Giants' defense is playing very short-handed, with three of its top four cornerbacks and its middle linebacker out for the season, but there's no excuse for a performance like this against a team the Giants absolutely knew would try to run the ball.
Eli with the rare (yes, rare) interception: The Giants forced three turnovers, but the key turnover in the game was Earl Thomas' interception of Giants quarterback Eli Manning in the third quarter. It was a deep third-down throw to Odell Beckham in the end zone with Richard Sherman covering. Beckham went up and got a hand on it, but Thomas was there for the pick, and Seattle converted it into the first of its three fourth-quarter touchdowns. It was Manning's first interception since Week 4, but it was a big one. The game was tied 17-17 at the time.
Game ball: Odell Beckham Jr. The rookie first-round wide receiver is a clear bright spot in this difficult Giants season. He had seven catches for 108 yards, and it's clear by the way Seattle moved Sherman around on him that he's getting the attention of opposing defenses even this early in his career.
What's next: The Giants keep it in the NFC West as they host the 5-4 San Francisco 49ers in a 1 p.m. ET home game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
