49ers waive/injured OLB Chase Thomas

In the wake of the San Francisco 49ers signing free-agent outside linebacker Philip Wheeler on Thursday and drafting Virginia outside linebacker Eli Harold in the third round Friday, the team announced Monday it had parted ways with another outside linebacker.

Chase Thomas, who tore the ACL in his right knee in an early offseason workout, was waived/injured by the Niners, the team announced.

Thomas, an undrafted free agent from Stanford, spent most of the 2014 season on the practice squad but had two special teams tackles in five games.

He told the Sacramento Bee and San Francisco Chronicle in March that he suffered the injury “when he planted awkwardly during an offseason training session,” per the Bee.

Thomas spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers before coming to the Niners last year and making his NFL debut in November.
