Former University of Washington wide receiver Kasen Williams, who made a positive impression on the Seattle Seahawks coaches in rookie camp, was signed by Seattle on Friday.
The Seahawks released linebacker Mister Alexander to make room for Williams.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll liked what he saw in Williams during the team's three-day rookie camp in May.
"He looked very good,” Carroll said of Williams on the last day of rookie camp. "We've known him for a long time through the recruiting process [when Carroll was the coach at Southern Cal] and our expectations are that he is a really accomplished receiver. He's a great athlete getting off the ground and he showed all of that. He looked like he fit, so we'll try to get him back."
But Williams, who was a tryout player at rookie camp, was not signed by the Seahawks afterward because Williams couldn't participate in organized team activities. NFL rules prohibit rookies from taking part in OTAs until their senior class graduates.
UW has its graduation ceremony Saturday. Williams will be able to take part in minicamp next week. He was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Cincinnati Bengals but that deal cancelled when Williams reportedly failed a physical.
Williams (6-1, 220) was a Parade All-American at Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington, but two fractures in junior year at UW slowed his progress.
The Seahawks now have 11 wide receivers on the 90-man roster.
