Tockey's walk-off homer in 10th sends Oklahoma past Georgia Tech
Dayton Tockey hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Oklahoma to a dramatic 8-7 victory over Georgia Tech in a winner-take-all NCAA regional final Monday at Mac Nease Baseball Park in Atlanta, where the Sooners were the designated home team.
Tockey, who finished 2-for-4, capped a comeback for the Sooners, who advance to the super regionals. Jaxon Willits also was instrumental, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs, including the game-tying single in the bottom of the ninth. Dasan Harris also had a big day, collecting three hits, an RBI and a stolen base. Deiten Lachance hit a two-run homer in the first inning as the Sooners took an early 3-0 lead.
The Sooners trailed 7-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before mounting their rally. They scored two runs in the seventh on an RBI fielder's choice from Camden Johnson and an RBI double by Willits to make it 7-5. A run scored on another fielder's choice in the eighth to cut the deficit to one, setting the stage for Willits' game-tying single.
Georgia Tech built its lead with a powerful offensive display. Drew Burress hit a two-run homer in the third to get the Yellow Jackets on the board. In the fifth, Parker Brosius and Caleb Daniel hit back-to-back solo home runs to give Georgia Tech the lead. The Yellow Jackets added three more runs in the sixth. Daniel went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Brosius was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs. Reliever Mason Patel pitched 6⅓ innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out six.
Oklahoma reliever Jackson Cleveland was stellar in relief, tossing 3⅔ scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out four to keep the Sooners in the game.
