11.04pm Hope and Powell get the job done for WI and put the hosts 1-0 up. On a two-paced track, WI dashed out of the blocks, scoring 66 for 0 in the six overs. Hasaranga struck in the seventh over to snag local boy King with a wrong'un, triggering a WI slowdown. Hasaranga proceeded to have Hetmyer hole out for 17 off 10 balls. No.4 Chase had a tortured stay, managing only 16 off 26 balls. At one point, WI may have considered retiring him out, but their captain anchored the chase on a challenging pitch with an unbeaten half-century. Jamaican hero Powell applied the finishing touches with a mighty six in the final over. That's all we have for you from this game. Do come back for the second T20I on June 14. Until then, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Harshith and Chetan. Goodbye and cheers.
Holder is the Player of the Match: For me, it's just trying to be consistent. I knew what length I had to bowl. I thought the pitch was a bit two-paced. I think it depends on the situation and after getting two wickets in two balls, it really set it up. More or less, I try to understand the situation and keep the stumps in play. Look, I just try to plan better and understand the conditions and try to be a step ahead of the opposition. I did look at a little bit of numbers as well to understand where I've been going wrong and just try to correct the mistakes.
Mendis, SL captain: I think batting in the powerplay and lost wickets. We then struggled. Dasun and Kamindu batted well. We struggled in the powerplay with the ball, but after the powerplay they bowled really, really well.
Hope, WI captain: It was pretty challenging to be fair. The consistency from Holder and Shamar was commendable. The pace-off was utilised pretty well as well. It's a great confidence-booster to start the series well. We wanted to win more comfortably in the end, but a win is a win. See, we need to trust our ability against spin and back our execution.
