Three-time major champion Anna Nordqvist will retire as a player after this weekend's FM Championship in Boston, she announced Wednesday.
The 39-year-old Swede's most recent major win and last LPGA title was at the Women's British Open in 2021. Currently ranked 118th in the world, Nordqvist won nine times on the LPGA Tour and earned more than $14 million in her career.
"Twenty years ago, I came to the U.S. with two suitcases, a golf bag and a dream of one day competing with the best golfers in the world," Nordqvist wrote in a letter she read on Instagram. "I don't know how to say goodbye to something that means so much to me, but this is going to be the last week walking inside the ropes, competing on tour. I'm not sure what the future has in store for me, but it's with a grateful heart I have decided to retire from playing professional golf to focus on my health and my family."
Nordqvist will serve as the captain for Team Europe when it faces the United States in the Solheim Cup next month in Bernardus, Netherlands. She had a 17-15-3 overall record as a player in the event.
