Lions QB Matthew Stafford ready to 'move on' after benching

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has twice spoken with Jim Caldwell since Sunday, said his relationship with the coach is "good" and he's ready to "move on" after being benched in the third quarter against the Arizona Cardinals.

"We had a couple of discussions, which you have to do," Caldwell said Wednesday. "You better have some communication with that guy, particularly as a head coach with the quarterback. So he and I sat down and we talked. ... He'll be fine."

The two spoke after Sunday's 42-17 loss and again Monday.

"We talked," Stafford said. "It's over with. Now we move on."

Stafford will be the Lions' starting quarterback Sunday against the Chicago Bears as they try to avoid going to 0-6.

Stafford, who also said he has no issues with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, said his confidence has not changed and that he is still going to be the same quarterback he's always been.

"Right where it's always been, honestly," Stafford said. "Can't say it wasn't frustrating and it wasn't difficult. There's no question on that. But confidence in my ability to play? I've never lost that."

Caldwell, when asked if he's seen progress immediately after benching quarterbacks in the past, said everyone responds differently.

"You know everybody is different," Caldwell said. "You guys, better than most, know how tough Matthew is mentally. And Matthew [will] bounce right back."
