A former celebrity agent is set to learn if an extraordinary bid to delay his rape sentence will succeed, as prosecutors push for a "significant" jail term.
Ralph Carr, who managed the careers of ex-AFL star Dustin Martin, singer Kate Ceberano, and ex-wife Tina Arena, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by a Victorian County Court jury in July.
Judge Frank Gucciardo is expected to rule on Tuesday on whether the disgraced manager, 66, should be granted a stay of his sentence.
It comes a week after Carr faced a pre-sentence hearing in which prosecutor Matthew Fisher urged the judge to not forget the victim of the manager's crimes.
"She was fragile and vulnerable," he said.
"The accused man sexually assaulted and raped her twice.
"The Crown say that he did that for one reason and one reason only: for his own sexual gratification."
Those circumstances were why Judge Gucciardo should impose a significant term of imprisonment, he said.
Sporting a bald head and grey prison tracksuit, Carr was almost unrecognisable without his prominent black wig as he faced court.
The long-time entertainment industry figure has undergone a swift downfall since a suppression order over his identity was lifted days after the jury's July 28 verdicts.
Carr's identity had been blanketed for close to three years as the case moved through the courts.
At a hearing on Tuesday, Carr's barrister Dermott Dann KC said his client's unmasking had impacted his mental health, leading to suicidal thoughts, depressive symptoms and anxiety.
Carr maintained his innocence and was applying for a temporary delay to his sentence pending an appeal against his convictions for rapes lasting "one second", Mr Dann told the court.
"For someone who maintains innocence, this is a terrible, terrible situation," he said.
"When he describes it as a living hell and that he's destroyed, it adds to the picture."
Carr was convicted of assaulting a former employee at his Melbourne home in the early hours of March 24, 2023, after she became emotional discussing a relationship break-up.
He hugged her and began kissing her and touching her breasts, waist and buttocks while she tried to push him away.
When she told him to stop, Carr told her he couldn't because she was "so sexy" before raping her twice while she cried into a pillow.
A victim impact statement for the woman was not tendered in court.
Judge Gucciardo will rule on the stay application on Tuesday.
If Carr's bid is denied, the judge is expected to immediately sentence the former agent.
