GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Now that we know how many selections the Green Bay Packers will have in the April 30-May 2 NFL draft and exactly where those picks fall in each round, we can get a better idea what kind of players general manager Ted Thompson might be able to land.
With that in mind, let's look at the recent players selected at the Packers' draft position in each round.
We've looked at players selected at No. 30 overall, No. 62 overall, No. 94 overall and No. 129 overall -- where the Packers will pick in the first four rounds.
Now, let's move to the fifth round, where the Packers have the 166th overall selection. Here's a look at the players selected at that spot the past five years:
2014 -- Jonathan Newsome, OLB, Ball State (Indianapolis Colts): Led the Colts with 6.5 sacks, the third-highest total among rookies in franchise history.
2013 -- Caleb Sturgis, K, Florida (Miami Dolphins): Has made 55-of-71 (77.5 percent) of his field goals combined in the last two seasons.
2012 – Marvin Jones, WR, California (Cincinnati Bengals): Missed the entire 2014 season because of a broken foot he sustained in August following his breakout season in 2013 when he caught 51 passes for 712 yards and 10 touchdowns.
2011 -- Lawrence Wilson, LB, Connecticut (Carolina Panthers)*: Did not make the Panthers' roster as a rookie and then was released from the practice squad that fall after he was cited for speeding and possession of marijuana. Spent part of the 2013 season with the Bears but did not appear in a game. Has been out of football since the Rams cut him in training camp last summer.
2010 -- Stevenson Sylvester, WR, Utah (Pittsburgh Steelers): Played in 50 career games with the Steelers and then signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills last summer. Never played in a game for the Bills after he tore his patellar tendon in training camp last August with the Bills and was placed on injured reserve.
*First pick of the sixth round.
We'll look at the recent players selected in the spots where the Packers pick in rounds six and seven the rest of this week.
