Jacksonville Jaguars mailbag: OL help, Chad Henne and Justin Blackmon

Got questions about the Jacksonville Jaguars? I’ll try to answer a representative selection of them every week. Submit your questions via Twitter to @ESPNdirocco.

On Sunday I’ll answer the Question of the Week.

@ESPNdirocco: I agree with you on the Jaguars needing to add an interior lineman to push Zane Beadles, Luke Bowanko and Brandon Linder. It would be better if that person were a veteran, such as center Stefen Wisniewski, but it may end up being a rookie. The most important thing is the player provides competition. As for the tackles, I liked the signing of Jermey Parnell but he still has to prove he can be a quality starter in the league. Even if he turns out to be an average player, he'll be an upgrade if he just stays healthy and plays every week. I'm still not sold on Luke Joeckel, though. This is an important offseason for him. He needs to show up bigger and stronger and with better footwork. So far he's been a disappointment.

@ESPNdirocco: GM David Caldwell said he had hoped to hear something before the draft but there has been no movement on the situation. In fact, the Jaguars won't know if Blackmon has applied for reinstatement unless Blackmon or his agent tells them because the NFL will not notify the Jaguars when Blackmon applies. If Blackmon realistically wants to play in 2015 the best scenario would be submitting his application for reinstatement sometime within the next month so he could be able to participate in organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.

@ESPNdirocco: Fowler has everything the Jaguars want in a pass-rushing Leo end: size (6-foot-3, 265 pounds), long arms (33.8 inches), and a variety of pass-rush moves. He also runs well (4.6 40-yard dash), is athletic and explodes off the ball. He would definitely be a good fit for the Jaguars. But so would several other players, including Vic Beasley and Shane Ray.

@ESPNdirocco: The Jaguars have no plans to replace Chad Henne, who enters the final year of his contract. I would not be surprised to see Henne re-signed after the 2015 season. He's a solid veteran backup who understands his role and has been a good mentor and example for Blake Bortles. The Jaguars were pleased with the way he handled himself last season.

@ESPNdirocco: If the Jaguars really want him I think they would have to take him in the second round because I don't think he'll be around in the third. That being said, if the Jaguars don't take a receiver in the first round then I don't expect them to do so until the third round or later. Things can always change, but pass-rusher and running back are my guesses for positions the Jaguars are going to target in the first two rounds.

@ESPNdirocco: You can easily make the argument that Vic Beasley should be the pick over Dante Fowler Jr. You hit on the main reason: Beasley's production at Clemson. Fowler had 14.5 sacks in three seasons, including 8.5 in 2014. Beasley had 33 sacks in four seasons, including 25 in the last two. Both are very good athletes and fit the Leo pass-rushing position. Beasley is a little faster (4.53 in the 40 compared to Fowler's 4.6) and significantly stronger (35 bench-press reps at 225 pounds compared to Fowler's 19). It'll be interesting to see what the Jaguars say was the thing that separated the two players.

@ESPNdirocco: That absolutely could happen. However, it would have to be an awfully good deal because I believe the Jaguars would have a hard time not taking Williams if he were available when they pick. It might even involve another first-round pick.

@ESPNdirocco: The Jaguars drafting Fowler wouldn't impact the playing time of Telvin Smith, Paul Posluszny and Dan Skuta. Fowler would play the pass-rushing Lleo end and the other three are linebackers. Posluszny will likely come off the field on third down but that won't have anything to do with Fowler.

@ESPNdirocco: Both players are going to have to fight for a roster spot and likely will make their most significant impact on special teams. I know the Jaguars liked George a lot last year and had hoped to use him more when Paul Posluszny got hurt but George suffered an ankle injury and missed three games.
