JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars signed nine undrafted free agents after Saturday’s draft. Here’s a closer look at each player:
LB Thurston Ambrister: He had 129 tackles and seven sacks in 38 games at Miami. He has lined up as an edge rusher and outside linebacker. He's one of three linebackers the Jaguars signed. That's a position that the Jaguars didn't address in the draft because they felt there weren't players worth taking after the third run.
DT Eric Crume: He had 87 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles in four seasons at Syracuse. He had 38 tackles (nine for loss) and two sacks as a senior. It's a tough spot for an undrafted free agent because of the glut of players on the Jaguars' defensive front, even with tackle Sen'Derrick Marks returning from ACL surgery.
RB Corey Grant: He's a burner, having run a 4.27 40-yard dash at Auburn's pro day, and he also has good return skills. He ran for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns and averaged 24.5 yards on 23 kickoff returns.
TE Connor Hamlett: He caught 104 passes for 1,109 yards and 10 touchdowns in three seasons at Oregon State. He had three knee surgeries to repair meniscus damage during and after his junior season and decided after last season to give up football, telling the Everett, Washington, Herald that he played his senior season at 80 percent and felt his knees wouldn't be able to handle the continued stress of football.
CB Nick Marshall: He is the lone undrafted free agent that played for the Jaguars' coaching staff on the South team in the Senior Bowl. He was a quarterback at Auburn, where he completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 4,508 yards and 34 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in two seasons. He also rushed for 1,866 yards, including 1,068 yards in 2013.
G Chris Reed: The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Reed started 48 games in four seasons at Minnesota State and earned All-American first-team honors by D2Football.com. Reed also won two NCAA titles in the shot put and had 11 All-American honors as a thrower.
LB Matt Robinson: He started at Maryland as a safety but was converted to linebacker. He finished his career with 198 tackles (14.5 for loss) and missed six games with foot and shoulder injuries as a senior.
LB Todd Thomas: He had 251 tackles in four seasons (34 starts) at Pittsburgh.
QB Jake Waters: He did a solid job replacing Collin Klein at Kansas State, completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 5,970 yards and 40 touchdowns with 17 interceptions. He also ran for 796 yards and 15 touchdowns.
