Marqise Lee sending gifts home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Observed and heard in the locker room after the Jacksonville Jaguars' 25-24 victory over the New York Giants:

Mementos: Receiver Marqise Lee caught the first touchdown pass of his career, and he’s sending gifts back home. Lee said the ball is going to his stepmother, Sheila Nero, and his jersey is going to his mother, Toy Williams. He also had another ball sitting in his locker, but it was given to him before the game by teammate Tommie Campbell along with some words of encouragement. "Tommie just said, ‘Good things are going to come, Qise,'" Lee said. "He’s like, 'Just hold on to it.’ So I just sat here and I held on to it until we had to go out." Lee caught six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Winning the scrum: Two Giants players had a shot at recovering Eli Manning's fumble in the end zone late in the first half, but it was linebacker J.T. Thomas who came out with it. Guard Will Beatty couldn’t gather it in, and running back Rashad Jennings actually had the ball in his hand. "I was kind of caught by surprise that guys wouldn’t just jump on the ball," Thomas said. "I was happy to be able to hop on it and score one for the defense."

Historic comeback: The Jaguars’ rally from a 21-0 deficit marks the largest comeback in team history. It was so improbable that receiver Cecil Shorts wasn’t even sure how big the actual deficit was. He at first thought it was 18 points, forgetting the Jaguars’ field goal came after the Giants’ third touchdown. "It’s huge for everybody," Shorts said. "To be down 21 points and come back in the second half and play like we did, it’s a credit to the coaching staff. They came out at halftime and didn’t yell, didn’t scream. They had some energy, just told us, just keep pounding, keep attacking."
