NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- With the 2-14 season in the bank, we’ll spend some time looking back at a dozen plays that defined the Tennessee Titans' season.
I put them in rough order, but we certainly could shuffle the list.
Game: Ravens 21, Titans 7, Week 10 at M&T Bank Stadium, Nov. 9, 2014
Situation: The Titans got the ball to open the game against the Ravens and put together an excellent opening drive. In 14 plays they moved from their 20-yard line to the Ravens’ 1. They were posed for a rare, successful opening drive.
Play: On second-and-goal from the 1, Shonn Greene reached but couldn’t get across the goal line, and a hit by Haloti Ngata forced a fumble which Lawrence Gay recovered. It set the Titans up for another disappointing day. "I thought I did [score]," Greene said. "But I wasn't sure, so I just tried to keep pushing, and that's when I started turning and stuff. I can't put the ball out there for the refs to make that decision, so that's on me." Greene wasn’t seen again, though he and Ken Whisenhunt said he wasn’t benched, that it was a packages thing. (I would have applauded a benching that was not disguised.) The theme from there was Zach Mettenberger holding the ball too long, too often as the Titans fell to 2-7.
Here’s a Twitter follower who suggested it:
@quagliero @PaulKuharskyNFL how about Shonn Greene fumbling at the goal line in Baltimore. Classic #Titans!
